Sitting in the airport in Dubai, fresh off a flight from Frankfurt, waiting for my Kenya Airways flight to Nairobi. I’m halfway to Jo’burg. I’ll be arriving right in time for the kick-off to the World Cup. I hear that there’s going to be a big surprise during the opening ceremonies around the 7 minute mark. That should be interesting. Sorry for loose formatting – quick post from my iPad.
Stay tuned for blog posts and photos from the games in South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Dubai, Germany, etc. This is a looooong trip so hopefully I’ll have some cool stuff to share (I’ve been practicing time lapse photography!).
Later

So, my first day in Dar was planned out about a week and a half ago. I have had my guide to Tanzania for close to three years now and pretty much knew what I wanted to go and see back in ’06.

What was on the agenda:
Mosque St.
National Museum (Why not? I’m here, right?)
Kariakoo Market
Msani Peninsula and the Fishing Village
and the villages and whatnot around the Harbor and Kigambon Ferry area.

My trip is pretty much over. My friend Gretchen made her way from Munich to Beijing – tonight we’re going to the theatre to check it out and get some photos for my night collection. I’ve got a few posts coming – I leave for New York tomorrow. Articles will include a wrap for North Korea, wrap for the trip (which I didn’t much care for, really), and a write up on the do’s and dont’s of navigating an airport.
I’ll start processing photos when I get home – this laptop is the dog’s nuts and not in a good, getting licked every ten minutes way.

After a week of crap from Time Warner, we’re finally back online.
Up next – planning for my trip back into China and to North Korea. Tentatively I’ll be visiting Beijing, North Korea, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, and the Silk Road. Working on the flights now with CITS with whom I do all of my domestic Chinese flight arrangements.
I’ve also found some new services I’ll be trying out this trip for hotels/flights:
So far, I’ve seen wonderful prices on gta but the customer support is a bit mechanical (they have failed to define what a ‘single’ room is on three separate occassions). sinohotels has some hotels in the most remote parts of China and kayak/vayama have a much sleeker interface than expedia with way more international destinations. So far, so good.
